Silence

It's been a while, and the internet just seems to be growing.
Zach started his own blog, good for him, and interesting
reading for me!

In my struggle to fight the boredom, I started twittering!
Have a look if you wish. It's even less formal than these
posts, and more frequent.

I've been thinking about what lyrics to include in
this post. I decided to go for Cage’s 4’33”:

----
This 4 minute 33 second piece of silence is both a pleasure
and an awful experience. Of course the time between each
movement is used by the audience to make all kind of
disturbing noises, such as coughing, which totally ruins the
experience. It also annoys me how most people probably
do not understand the greatness of this piece (I'm willing
to say that it is a bit over my head), but are only interested
in the phenomena. In either case, it's an interesting experiment.

Tomorrow is Friday and I just hope it'll be awesome,
I need something to happen!

Finally, since I'm such an awful friend (hey, at least I admit it),
I almost forgot: Happy birthday Zach Choy :)

Lol at the lyrics to the song. I hate to be a dissenting voice, but I think that while Cage's experiment into the sound of silence was fascinating, it is quite useless as a performance piece. What it does show is the importance of silence in music and allows other artist to best learn from the sounds audible during moments of quiet that need to be taken into account in an immersive piece.

Yes Carl, Friday is going to be quite awesome. Even if people don't show up, 12 hour gaming does sound very attractive. Hopefully y'all won't fall asleep on me again.

About my brand-new, shiny blog, I will be updating practically every day, until I get bored, which is when you'll see posts once every month or so. How quickly that will happen depends on how interesting my life is.

Also, hopefully we can play Halo this friday, because I have enlisted the company of one of the finest Halo players I have had the pleasure of playing.

interesting experiment, i agree. though i'd keep it off my mp3 player, since every time i hear it i'd just fast-forward through it.

Lol, 4'33 is just like an experiment. It's not over your head - if you got the idea of silence and the background noises, you got it already. There's really nothing else to get. Lol at 12 hours gaming.
